MUTSEU

The radical restoration, carried out at the end of XX century, allowed to recover, under the church, a large burial crypt, consisting of two rooms communicating with each other.
The crypt was built in the XVII century with the above Chapel of Mercy, reusing and modifying a natural cave that may have been the initial seat of the Archconfraternity.
Both chapels of the crypt have altars cut into the rock, they are different in the decoration and furnishing.
The burials were for the members and their relatives, while part of the first crypt was dedicated to the burial of children.

Following the Napoleonic edict which forbade burial within the churches and in the nearby squares, in XIX century the crypt was filled with all the material removed from the cemetery outside and dismissed.
The restoration of the crypt was completed in 2000.
